Bingo; typically thought of as an old pensioner’s game in an old, musty bingo hall. But, if that’s what you’re thinking, you’ve clearly never heard of Bongo’s Bingo. If that is the case, where have you been?! Last weekend, I had the pleasure of heading to the Boiler Shop in Newcastle for another unforgettable night.
What is Bongo’s Bingo?
From what began as a student rave at one venue in Liverpool in 2015 to what is now a fully fledged show appearing in over 40 cities in the UK, not to mention Ibiza, Australia and France. In the space of 5 and a half years, it’s stolen the hearts of, not just the nation, but the world.
Bongo’s Bingo stays true to the original rules of bingo, but has given the much-loved pastime a new burst of energy. Imagine an all-inclusive house party… but one you can bring your Nan to! Think rave rounds, dance-offs and crazy prizes all mixed in with bingo.
What Can You Expect?
It’s pretty hard to describe the unique mix that accompanies this bingo game; but with a combination of a hilarious live show, a raving party and a heads-down game of bingo it’s an alcohol-fuelled hedonistic escape.
Some of the numbers involve specific responses whilst others link to certain songs. One minute the entire audience will be silently marking their numbers, the next they’ll be up on the benches dancing away. With music to suit everybody’s taste, there’ll sure be something to get you singing your heart out. It’s definitely an experience listening to 700 odd people belting out Disney songs.
Of course, the bit you’ve all been waiting for. When it comes to the prizes, expect the usual alcohol and, of course, cash prizes. That’s where the normalness ends though. Think 80s game show and you’ll be halfway to guessing the remaining weird and wonderful prizes. While the winners of the first few games left with cardboard cutouts, boxes of coco pops (of which I had one poured over me!) and inflatable rubber ducks (which I got knocked over by), the later games had the likes of Henry Hoovers and karaoke machines!
So, if this sounds like your type of night then get yourself down… you will not be disappointed! All shows have sold out until the end of April, but keep an eye out for the next round of tickets coming on sale here (you can even set up an alert for your city)! You’ll have to be quick though, they sell out fast!
Thank you to Micky Pickles, his wonderful dancers (Thirsty Thelma and Dirty Daisy) and all of the Bongo’s/Boiler Shop team for another brilliant, fun-filled night! I’ll be seeing you again real soon.
